It began out of love for our adopted city - and with a need to fill that had not been filled before. We owned Mermaids, a swimwear and footwear shop in downtown Ventura that we opened in 2000. We loved the store, loved our clients and customers who would come in on a regular basis, not just to buy bikinis, shirts, sandals, wraps, t's or makeup but to schmooze, laugh, shop with no pressure, no worries, no DRAMA... We were always open later than most of the stores at that time, and we were asked on a nearly daily basis where it might be a good place to eat dinner or stay over. We realized there was a real need for a Ventura "City" magazine, one that told the stories of our town and opened eyes to eateries, history, beautiful homes, events and the like. We had never created a magazine before, but we were about to find out what it took. This was 2002. Man, were we in for a learning curve... Over the next few years we published 8 editions of our magazine, and we put out the last few with the stellar participants we take as our friends and compadres in this grand adventure. Our staff when we shut down the print publication consisted of our friends managing editor Matt Kettmann, graphic designer Alex Abatie and master photographer Steve Jacob. Ventura Magazine continues to work with the City and County of Ventura in charity events and public outreach throughout Ventura County. We are proud to have served the community in whatever capacity we were needed. Our thanks to the many fans and friends we made along the way...
